3D Modelling a Human Head in 3D Studio Max Using Polygons

Sunday 26 February 2012

I was given the following two renders of a human head wireframe to model in 3Ds Max

After creating two planes, crosshatching, extruding, mirroring and creating a sphere for the eyes, which I then cloned, I ended up with the following render.

Next I opted for Node 5 and dragged it over the above wireframe, resulting in the render below.

Next, using a photo of an ear I applied polygons on the topology of the ear.

I then imported the above image into 3Ds Max, and after extruding and merging verts I ended up with the following render.

I then cloned the ear and positioned one each side of the head wireframe, giving me the following render.

Next I opted for Node 5 and dragged it over the above wireframe, resulting in the render below.

Due to problems with the shading on the above image, I then used the turbosmooth tool to give me the following result. Even though there are problems with parts of the wireframe with regards to potential animation, after applying Node 5 the end result looked much better.
